It’s International football weekend which is exciting enough but when it’s a Wales v England Euro 2012 qualifier, it’s easy to promote it as the One to Watch on thesportreport.co.uk
John Terry was reinstated as the England captain this week by Fabio Capello and will be out to prove to the coach that he’s worthy of the role. Proving to that to the players and fans may take more than just a solid performance in a Euro qualifier though, as Terry’s reappointment as captain has caused ripples of controversy within the England ranks.
When Capello announced the change to the rest of the England squad in training, it was reported that none of the players said a word. John Terry has since been quoted in the tabloids on the matter:
“I’m not too bothered if all the players are not behind me[...]the most important thing is for England to win football matches.”
We agree with John on this occasion but winning this match may prove to be much more difficult than in the past. Whereas playing Wales back in 2004 meant worrying about Ryan Giggs (and few others) – it’s Giggs’ protégé that needs worrying about at the weekend:
Gareth Bale is a name that has erupted from the Welsh valleys and gone global in recent years. I wouldn’t dare to whisper it around the England camp myself. It’s going to be interesting to see who Capello chooses to mark the lightning bolt on the left wing who, even more terrifyingly, will receive mentoring from Giggs himself leading up to the game.
Giggs has reportedly put a halt on his family holiday to assist Gary Speed’s Welsh side any way he can. Though he’s clearly stated he will not be pulling on a jersey himself. So with Speed and Speedier preparing the World’s speediest left winger, Wales look to have a frightening set up.
In comparison to England being shaken up behind the scenes with all this Terry business, the Welsh side have a real shot at preventing their rivals from qualifying for Euro 2012 on Saturday 26th March. Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD will be covering the game from 2.00pm.
Somehow we don’t think it’s going to be an easy 1-0 like the last time the sides met in 2004. What do you think? Get back to us in the forum below…

It definitely won’t be an easy match for England. Still, I expect Capello’s men to perform well and get a high score away win. 2-1 for England would be my final prediction.
